SVG and CFO - it’s all falling into place
With software developers descending on Las Vegas (Mix06) and Santa Clara (EclipseCon), its high time we updated you about events at 6th Sense Analytics that should appeal to both communities. 6th Sense Analytics is close to debuting a browser-based service that helps software developers focus on doing what they care most about (developing) and also allows the business to get on with what it cares most about most (business).
Since last we spoke (yes, we know it was in December 2005) the technology and business team helping 6th Sense deliver on this service and on-going strategy has been baking nicely. Scalable vector graphics (SVG) evangelist Doug Schepers has become 6th Sense’s 13th team member. Doug is well known in SVG circles, having developed many SVG-based applications, including the SVG+JavaScript drawing program SVG-Whiz, and been a founding partner of SVG consultant Vectoreal. Doug has also been on the W3C working groups for Web API and SVG Doug’s knowledge of SVG and his work on industry standards means 6th Sense will deliver a flexible and open dashboard for business and project leaders to view and manipulate 6th Senses charting and graphing functions.
Charting has traditionally been rendered on the server with image files sent over to the desktop. This is simply not interactive enough for the kind of service 6th Sense has in mind. Doug’s work will mean the 6th Sense service simulates the look and feel of the desktop with the cross-platform convenience of the browser.
Our other big hire is chief financial officer John Sherbin. John is well versed in the culture of tech sector companies and the philosophy of the start up. We worked with John at TogethetSoft, a company with $50m in revenue bought by Borland Software in 2002 for $210m, where he served as CFO. John helped grow TogetherSoft’s revenue and reduce costs, driving profitability and positive cash flow - factors that demonstrate John’s level of familiarity and knowledge of the market 6th Sense is going after. John is a steady pair of corporate hands whose presence will free the rest of us to get on with the job of building, marketing and selling all that 6th Sense goodness you’ll be getting during the next few weeks and months.
