Introducing 6th Sense

"In software development optimism is a disease, feedback is the cure." ~Kent Beck, Agitar Fellow

6th Sense's simple goal is to improve software development by providing feedback. Welcome to the newly launched 6th Sense Analytics website. You'll notice that this website is a tad different. We opted to make our home page a weblog to provide you with fresh information as we evolve our company and products. Our goal with this inaugural post is to introduce 6th Sense and cover some basic FAQ stuff. If we don't address your question, feel free to email us at info@6thsenseanalytics.com. Your question may even be the topic of a new post here.

The idea.

We started 6th Sense with the idea that developing software is still too difficult and that the people (and vendors) who are supposed to be easing this just don't get it. Why?? There's no data. Data to make informed and optimal decisions is absent, and the means to collect such data has been prohibitively expensive--until now. We believe that data drives good decisions. However, we also believe that gathering data shouldn't be painful or time-consuming, that you should not have to change how you work or when you work and that the data should be collected without any time taken from you while performing your typical activities. Pretty lofty goals huh? Our products seamlessly integrate with the tools that knowledge workers use to transparently gather the data necessary for individuals and teams to make good decisions.

The company

6th Sense officially opened its doors (to a couple of spare bedrooms) in September 2004 and much of the early work was in writing business plans, building prototypes, lining up beta customers and raising money. In November 2005 we proudly finalized our seed round of funding led by Intersouth Partners located here in Durham, NC. We'd like to welcome Kip Frey from Intersouth, Ching-Ho Fung from Parature, and Dave Babson to our Board of Directors.

Us

We are Todd Olson, Greg Burnell and some other really smart people who are busy writing software. We cut our teeth in the application development marketplace at companies like Borland, Rational, Serena, TeamShare, and TogetherSoft. If you care to know more, our biographies are in the About Us section. Thanks for visiting 6th Sense. We hope you subscribe to our site and follow our progress. We will continue to post more and more about the company and product preceding our public release.

Questions

Do you see dead people?
Not typically, although we did like the movie. The name 6th Sense originally came to us from a thesaurus search, but it accurately represents what we do. Today, software development is frequently managed and performed with intuition being a guiding factor--an intuition that we hope to augment.
